ADA compliance planning begins in the bathroom… Our baths offer threshold-free showers with grab bars, hands-free water at the sinks, and ample turning space for wheelchairs and special equipment.		State licensing permits us to lock our gates because our backyard is 65’ deep.		We have furniture that allows for slightly-elevated seating, to accommodate individuals whose post-hip surgery rehabilitation requirements include sitting at specific angles to protect the new joint.

About The Birches:

There is so much to enjoy in later life! Since the late 1970s, Californians have had an opportunity to optimize their golden years through a safe and appealing alternative to early or needless confinement in nursing homes.

After a rigorous qualification process, the State Department of Social Services licenses facilities like The Birches Residential Care to offer a complete program of eldercare in homelike settings for residents who do not require full-time skilled nursing care, but who can no longer enjoy an independent life at home. The Department monitors and regulates all RCFEs closely through documentation and routine unannounced visits.

Sweeney, cat on the go, prowls the pantry. Floors in our home are an easily-maintained laminate throughout the house.		A resident entertains at the piano.		Rooms are fully furnished for comfort and ease of move-in. Hospital beds with adjustable features, half-rails, and trapezes are available if desired. Feel free to bring a painting, comforter, or favorite bedside lamp from home for the duration of your stay.


The east side of the house in summer.		Our recumbent LifeCycle is a great convenience for residents whose program of prescribed exercise includes riding a stationary bicycle in the privacy of your own home.		Max, the king of the jungle.


Rooms for long-term care are partially furnished or unfurnished. For short-term residents, rooms are fully furnished.		Our facility is compliant with the 1990 Americans with Disabilities Act.		Long-term residents play cards and engage in daily activities while Max stands watch.


Jacranda tree at the east side of the house.		A patio was enclosed to double the living room; this common area is now the most spacious room in the house. Our remodeled Eichler home has many windows and skylights, which creates a light-filled, upbeat environment for rehabilitation, relaxing, and activities.		There are no thresholds (no steps above 1/4” in height) in our home.
